On May 22, 2009 Claire Chazal received Laetitia Casta in the TF1 TV news of 20h (3:52s) at the Festival de Cannes
about the movie Visage [Face] in competition.

Claire Chazal: The film is called Face.
Good evening Laetitia Casta.
Thank you very much for giving us some instants in Cannes. It is a singular film. We just discovered a rather dreamlike universe said Michel Izard, a movie in which you sing and you dance. How did the work go with the film director?

Claire Chazal: Le film s'appelle Visage.

Merci beaucoup de nous accorder quelques instants à Cannes. C'est un film singulier. On vient de découvrir un univers assez onirique disait Michel Izard, un film dans lequel vous chantez et vous dansez. Comment s'est passé le travail avec le réalisateur ?

Laetitia: Good evening. It went very very well. It was a very beautiful meeting and a way of working really different with regard to the films that I could do before. There was a lot of freedom. He is a film director very dazzling.

Laetitia: Bonsoir. Ca s'est très très bien passé. Ca été une très belle rencontre et une manière de travailler vraiment différente par rapport aux films que j'ai pu faire auparavant. Il y avait beaucoup de liberté. C'est un metteur en scène très fulgurant.

CC: And who let you therefore free, I would say, improvise or let pass your emotions. Because basically there is little dialogue in this film. But the director said that one sees all on your face precisely.

CC: Et qui vous a laissé donc libre, j'allais dire, d'improviser ou de laisser passer vos émotions. Parce qu'au fond il y a peu de dialogues dans ce film. Mais le réalisateur dit qu'on voit tout sur votre visage justement.

LC: Yes, that's what interests him in fact. It is the emotion.

It is the emotion that remains locked and that he manages to steal. When a director gives you as much freedom, it is always in a frame because it is always dangerous to leave a player like a horse start. It is a director who works a lot with his unconscious.

LC: Oui, c'est ce qui l'intéresse en fait. C'est l'émotion qui reste enfermée et que lui arrive à voler. Quand un metteur en scène vous laisse autant de liberté, c'est toujours dans un cadre parce que c'est toujours dangereux de laisser un acteur comme un cheval partir. C'est un metteur en scène qui travaille beaucoup avec son inconscient.

CC: Laetitia Casta, about the references for example to Francois Truffaut, with the presence notably of two actors fetish of Francois Truffaut, was it also something that attracts you?

CC: Est-ce que, Laetitia Casta, les références par exemple à François Truffaut, avec la présence notamment de deux acteurs fétiches de François Truffaut, ca aussi c'était quelque chose qui vous attirez ?

LC: Of course. It is something that, anyway, makes you dream when one likes the cinema. To join in the same movie these actors, it is incredible.

LC: Bien sûr. C'est quelque chose qui, de toute façon, vous fait rêver quand on aime le cinéma. De se retrouver dans le même film que ces acteurs là, c'est incroyable.

CC: So it should be noted. We saw a little costumes by Christian Lacroix and the choreography by Philippe Découflé all that, it is a melange of course very attractive and quite rich for this film.

CC: Alors il faut préciser. On a aperçu un peu les costumes de Christian Lacroix et la chorégraphie de Philippe Découflé, tout ca, c'est un mélange évidemment très attirant et tout à fait riche pour ce film.

LC: Yes, there were the costumes from France's National Theater Company. All that makes a melange reinvented by Tsai Ming-liang who has a universe particular and strong.
It was very magical as film.

LC: Oui, il y avait les costumes, de la Comédie Française. Tout ca fait un mélange réinventé par Tsai Ming-liang qui a vraiment un univers particulier et fort.
C'était très féerique comme film.

CC: The director effectively said that he has discovered in you an actress, but us, Laetitia Casta, it's been a long time that, us, we know that you are an actress,...

CC: Le réalisateur dit effectivement qu'il a découvert en vous une actrice, mais nous, Laetitia Casta, cela fait longtemps que, nous, nous savons que vous êtes une comédienne,...

CC: And notably you are magnificent on stage at the theatre.] Do you have now, I would say, the certainty to belong to this profession, this universe, this world of theatre and cinema?

CC: et notamment vous êtes magnifique sur scène au théâtre. Est-ce qu'aujourd'hui vous avez, j'allais dire, la certitude d'appartenir à cette profession, à cet univers, à ce monde là du théâtre et du cinéma ?

LC: I have always had the feeling of being totally engaged in what I was doing. Now we leave people some time to follow you. But anyway for me, it has never been important in fact. I need quite simply to play and film.

LC: Moi, j'ai toujours eu l'impression d'être totalement engagée dans ce que je faisais. Maintenant il faut laisser le temps aux gens pour vous suivre. Mais de tout de façon pour moi, ca n'a jamais été l'important en fait. J'avais besoin tout simplement de jouer et de tourner.

CC: And then you also need to live. Everyone knows that you expect a child because you obviously make no secret and you are at Cannes. All that is a beautiful melange I would way, of a radiant woman.

CC: Et puis vous avez besoin aussi de vivre. Chacun sait que vous attendez un enfant puisque vous n'en faites évidemment pas mystère et vous êtes à Cannes. Tout ca est un beau mélange, j'allais dire, de femme épanouie.

LC: Of happiness.

LC: De bonheur.

CC: There you are.

CC: Voilà.

Laetitia: Yes, a melange of happiness.

Laetitia: Oui, un mélange de bonheur.
